  Census Records		U.S. Census Helena, Phillips, AR 1880: D.W. Peck Family The census record show D.W. Peck born in Iowa and parents both born in Iowa, age 42 (b. 1838) recently married to May Peck age 23 who is occupied as a brick mason. They are living on Walnut Street in Helena. The 1850 Census indicates that he lived in Iowa then. Maybe that is his basis for saying he was from Iowa. I am wondering where their daughter Emma was. (I believe I found her living with her Aunt and Uncle in Pleasant Hill, Mississippi.) Daniel was on the lamb. He was actually 48 years old. The record indicates that he had only recently gotten married.

He has gotten younger with his birthday now in Nov 1849 and only 50 years old and married to Mary fro 21 years. Now he does not know where his father was born and his mother was born in Virginia. Mary has lost a few years and shows her birthday as July 1859 and age 40. Emma M, daughter born Jan 1878 is age 22. You have to go to the next page of the census for the rest of the information.   Claude Edgar Peck wrote: When I was about 15 years old, Grandfather, Daniel Webster Peck, visited us at Ehrmanddale, Indiana. His home at that time was at Helena, Arkansas and he told me of my forefathers, Peter Beck of Penn. Dutch. There were several families of Beck's and the mail would get mixed up, so Peter went to the court house and asked that his name be changed. The Judge asked him if Peck would do. Peter say "Yaw, dot is alreight." So there is the beginning of our name. This has been the family understanding of the source of the Peck family. However, it appears that Daniel was really from a Peck family that goes back to England. Perhaps one day we will find out why the Beck story. Dave Howard 2004 I went to Jackson, Ohio and visited the property where he and Amanda had a home. He was listed at a clock repairman at that time. Jackson was famous for its wood fired steel making blast furnace.
