- To Our Son
We looked to you with hope and pride;
We saw your future brightly.
Your deep concerns and aspirations
Were never taken lightly
The future was a mystery
That everyone explores
We shared your possibilities;
Embraced your distant shores.
We answered you when questions stirred
Encouraged you, implored you;
But life's a challenge shaped by dreams
A gift we couldn't live for you.
You lived it well, respected it fully
Played your spirit out;
You seeked and then discovered
All the best that life was about.
Remember that you're not alone
Our love will always be there;
The challenges that defined your life
Our hearts gladly shared.
You're on a voyage into time
A trip to somewhere new,
You may not see us there,
But we will always be with you.
So, now patiently we will wait
Until our time and place
Counting the seconds, minutes and days
When once again, we can see your face.
(Poem first written by his mother Aliene Edge (Lillian Aliene Branham) when she was in the Army. Now she has modified it for his passing.)
